National Park Ria Formosa
Located between the Algarve inland and the Atlantic Ocean this coastal lagoon is the Algarve’s best-kept secret. A true paradise where you discover a huge diversity of eco-systems which attracts a varied range of animal life, including many bird species such as the purple swamphen, the symbol of this Nature Park. Beaches

Tavira
Within a short drive of 7 km from Altanure by car or by bike, is the most picturesque city in the Algarve, Tavira. Charming, deep-rooted Moorish influences, lie along both sides of the Gilão River entering the Atlantic Ocean at the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
The Moorish architecture, the many renowned Chapels and Churches as well as the market for fresh products and seafood specialities, not to be missed. These seafood specialities and many other tasty dishes can be enjoyed in the many restaurants.
Cabanas
The authentic village Cabanas is located by the Ria Formosa Lagoon and is only a few miles from Tavira. With the river on one side and the sea on the other, giving it a unique blend of fresh and saltwater flora, fauna and wildlife and making it an ideal location for nature lovers enjoying this natural habitat by solar boat, stand up paddle or canoe.
At the beach of Cabanas is a special reserved beach area for kitesufing where a certified kite school is teaching on all levels and you can also rent equipment.
Santa Luzia
A delightful fishing village also named “Capital of the Octopus”
The fishing fleets in octopus fishing using traditional sustainable techniques while the restaurants have perfected the cooking of this traditional fish. The nearest beaches are Praia do Barril, with the impressive “Cemeterio das Anchoras” been aligned in the sand dunes honouring the small tuna fishing community that once flourished in the area. Praia de Terra Estreita is in front of the village and can be reached directly by ferry.
